Building Materials & Technology Promotion Counsel (BMPTC) , Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoH&UA), have conducted a seminar on “Management of Construction & Demolition Waste” in GHMC Head Office on 08.11.2017 to Sensitize the various officers of GHMC from Engineering, Town Planning and Health Wing. Some of the builders also attended the Seminar. Technical presentations were given by the following experts. Dr. Shailesh Kumar Agarwal, ED, BMTPC — on Utilization of C&D Waste in construction of Dwelling Units & related Infrastructures, Dr. Vimal Kumar, BMTPC — Guideline on Utilization of C&D Waste, Dr.A.K.Minocha, CSIR-CBRI – on Study related to use of C&D Waste, CDE Asia Ltd., — on C&D Waste processing equipments, Dr.Anasuya, BITS Pilani Hyderabad Center – on Evaluating the Performance of Building Derived Materials for Sustainable Environment, Mr.Praveen Kumar, M/s.Puzzolana Machinery Fabricators , Hyderabad – on Plant, Machinery and Process Reuse and Recycling of C&D Waste would not only help environmental protection but also help in reducing cost of dwelling per family unit as well as reduce the pressure on scarce building material from natural sources, especially, sand , stone chips etc. so far, C&D plants are running in East Kidwai Nagar & Shasthri Park in New Delhi and in Ahmedabad.
Once the re-usable elements have been segregated, the items like metal, glass, plastics, non usable waste items, etc. be removed and sent for re-processing and inert / non reusable material will be sent to landfill.
The balance debris can be processed to produce usable building materials such as – fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, ready mix concrete, bricks / blocks, tiles, paver blocks, kerb stones, pre-fab slabs etc.
Status of C&D in GHMC :
GHMC is going to establish C&D treatment plants at Fathullaguda & Jeedimetla for management of C&D Waste with a capacity of 300 TPD each for which tender process was completed.
The Mayor Ram mohan Rao has also attended the Seminar.
